Thirty years ago we dreamed of living off grid. Thirty years ago living off grid was a rather hippy, unsophisticated aspiration. But times have now changed. And living off grid or supporting the grid is fast becoming the norm. And has huge benefits locally and globally for a sustainable future.
And a more cost effective option then connecting to the grid or relying on the grid for your daily energy consumption. The sun is an incredible and obvious power source, so for us it seemed like madness to not tap into it.
We were eventually able to make our dream a reality when we found a tiny block, 26 acres just an hour from the Capital Canberra and nestled in the Yass Valley. From there we built our passive solar home, with large north facing windows to allow the low winter sun to shine in and heat the black floor. Sure we think differently about how we operate our house and business but that thinking allows us to feel more in touch with our land, the climate and the rhythm of the day for our animals.
We are immensely proud of what we have achieved and what life now offers us. Now of course our choices aren't everyone's idea of paradise! And farming has specific challenges in Australia.
We look forward to sharing our experiences good and bad and offering guests an opportunity to sample life with simple luxury off grid .
